CHAMPION, CANADIAN, COACH: CHARLES

FIBA U18 Champions and Head Coach Charles Hantoumakos.

On Sunday June 7th 2026, Canadian history was made during the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) AmeriCup World-tournament where two-points separated the victors from the defeated. Canada’s finest National U18 boys team lead by Charles Hantoumakos bested their American opponents to bring home the Championship.

The final score was 65-67, this victory marks Canada’s first gold medal in program history at the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup against the Americans who won the previous 7 consecutive AmeriCup titles. Standing at the centre of it all was Charles Hantoumakos, head coach of Orangeville Prep National, Canada basketball and former division 1 NCAA assistant coach with over 20 years of formative coaching experience.

What’s even better about this news? It’s that 3 players from the FIBA championship roster competed in Orangeville ON, during the 2026 All-Canadian games:

Stefan Ilic
Jayvion Tyndale (FIBA Tournament MVP & All-Star Five)
Lyris Robinson (FIBA AmeriCup All-Star Five)

While this victory belongs to a talented Canadian team, it also belongs to the architect who helped guide them there which is exactly why this moment matters far beyond a championship trophy.

As the head coach of Orangeville Prep’s National Program, Charles will bring the same leadership, the same vision and the same standard that just delivered one of the biggest victories in U18 Canadian basketball history which now lives inside Orangeville Prep.

For our Nation, this is proof that world-class development exists right here in Canada.

Proof that Canadian talent is some of the best in the world.

Proof that Canadian basketball has arrived and Orangeville Prep is helping lead the way.
