Athlete Institute 6v6 Adult Indoor Volleyball League

  • Divisions: 18+ Open

  • Ways to Play: Join solo as a free agent, sign up with friends (2–6 players), or lock in a full team (7 players).

GAME RULES & REGULATIONS

AIVL 18+ — Rules & Format

Fall 2025

Match Structure

  • Games will be played 6 vs 6
  • Each weekly match will include 4 sets to 21 points
  • Each set must be won by 2 points
  • If the result is a 2–2 tie after 4 sets, a tiebreak set to 11 will be played
  • The match is won by the team that wins the most sets (4–0, 3–1, or 3–2)
  • Once a match concludes, if time remains in the one-hour block, teams will scrimmage for the remainder

Rotation Rules

  • Players will rotate onto the court into the #6 position (back row, centre)
  • Players rotate off after their serve (#1 position)

Player Requirements

  • Players must be on a roster and registered with the league to play
  • Any changes or additions to the roster must be approved by the league convenor (email: Mark Peterson)
  • Players must play a minimum of 3 regular season games to be eligible for playoffs
  • Players with outstanding league fees are not eligible for playoffs

Uniform Policy

  • If you misplace your jersey you will be required to purchase a replacement ($40 + HST)

Timeout Rules

  • Regular Season: No timeouts
  • Playoffs: Each team will have one time-out per match

Roster Minimums

  • Teams must have at least 4 players to start the game
  • A team is permitted to play with a minimum of 4 players for the entirety of the match. The opposing team may still play with 6.
  • If a team has less than 4 players, they will forfeit the match (0–21, 0–21, 0–21, 0–21)
  • If there is a forfeit, the players present will scrimmage for the remainder of the one-hour block

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • In the event of inclement weather on the date of any programs scheduled a decision will be communicated by 4 PM if there will be a cancelation. If there has been no communication the programs will be running as scheduled.  

    After 4 PM the day of, discretion is left to the lead program instructor to cancel on-site. 

    A rescheduled session may push back all programming by one week. 

    Athlete Institute reserves the right to reschedule a session on another night of the week if required. Refunds will not be issued if the athlete cannot make the new date.   

    If a session gets canceled mid-way through it will not be rescheduled and if it’s canceled ahead of time, it will be rescheduled.  

    If a clinic is canceled due to inclement weather, the athlete may make up the clinic in a similar session on another night of the week.

  • Adult League Policy: 
    The registration deadline is the last official day to register for our programs. This will always be 14 days (about 2 weeks) before the program's start date. You may still register for programs after this deadline; however, you may not receive a jersey for 1-2 weeks.
