Member Spotlight: Tara Williams

We asked Tara to be featured on our member spotlight. She has been a member of ours for about a year now. She originally signed up with the goal of passing her certification exam for firefighting, which she accomplished, and proceeded to get "hooked."


Please explain your health history


I find myself to have always been an active person. My past physical history was strictly running. I've done numerous half marathons and 2 full marathons.


Explain what made you decide to start CrossFit


What made me join crossfit was a bit of an impulse/timeframe. I'm currently a volunteer firefighter for Caledon and pursuing a full time position. With that said, I had to pass festi's program and one of them was a CPAT test. The long and the short of this is you have 10 minutes to complete a obstacle course while wearing a 55 pound vest. Easy-peasy right?....wrong! I failed it the first time. Devastated...I really didn't know what to do. I honestly was shocked...I thought I was fit. Evidently I wasn't. So...I marched into Orangeville Crossfit and met with Tyler and told him he had a month to whip me into shape! He took he challenge and I was happy to report back to Tyler...that I had passed!


How long have you been doing CrossFit?


I started crossfit September 2016...I started with a one month membership...then went to three months....up'd it to gold membership (3 classes/week) I'm currently a platinum member (unlimited classes). I think I'm addicted.


Explain how CrossFit Orangeville has changed your life


The biggest part of how crossfit has changed my life is being welcomed into another crazy fun family. I just moved to caledon 3 years ago and maybe a month into our classes when we were saying our goodbyes...I was told I was joining a bunch for breakfast....and I wasn't allowed to say no. I honestly feel privileged to have met so many amazing people! I also feel stronger and more confident. It's a great feeling.


What are your short-term and long-term goals


Short or long term goals are pretty much the same. I want my technique to improve and to keep building my strength, endurance and to continue to have a healthy-fit life. I also want to kick double-unders in the a**! Maybe a muscle up to boot!


Any advice for individuals who may be nervous or apprehensive about starting CrossFit?


Well...No reason to be nervous..I didn't start with the boot camp. I went straight into crossfit. Knowing I was being guided/watched I felt very comfortable. Tyler worked closely with me with all the lifts and started me off with lower weights until my strength and technique had improved.
