I asked Robyne to explain to us how much CrossFit and CrossFit Orangeville mean to her. Robyne is one of the friendliest members you will meet here at CrossFit Orangeville - always welcoming and encouraging other members to be their best.
As a busy working mom of 2 girls, Robyne is constantly traveling for work, but still makes the time to get in to the gym as often as possible to workout. We are lucky to have such a dedicated member such as Robyne here at CrossFit Orangeville!
Please explain your health history (if noteworthy)
My health has always been relatively good. Besides the occasional cold and exhaustion from having just way too much on my plate at times, I really can't complain. And yet, the exhaustion part resonates with me as it does with many of us these days, doesn't it? Never enough hours in the day, the crazy demands of our jobs and those of us who really think we can do it all......until we hit that wall. All joking aside, the fatigue issue is why I got back into a workout routine many years ago, just after my daughter was born (she's 16 yrs old now). I needed a productive way to build my energy levels and proactively extend my life. And not just extend my life for the sake of "being around" for a long time but, to extend my life AND be healthy, active AND independent for as long as I can possibly be. One of my greatest fears is to wind up old with the inability to get around and take care of myself when I could have avoided this by taking better care in my early years.
Explain what made you decide to start CrossFit.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Explain how CrossFit Orangeville has changed your life.
CrossFit Orangville changed my life on so many levels. It has completely engaged me in a fitness regime that I look forward to almost every day. It has provided me exactly the program that I had been looking for, for so long. I need to feel challenged and motivated and I could just never get that from a regular gym. Every day I come in excited to see what the workout is going to be and excited to see how I am improving and getting stronger. I have developed such amazing friendships with the coaching staff and fellow CrossFitters. They all play an integral part in what motivates me to be there as often as I am. It really has become like a second home to me.
What are your short-term and long-term goals?
My short term goal is to just keep improving incrementally on my Olympic lifts and form. I will never be able to lift what some of my very strong women friends can lift however, as long as I continue to make improvements step by step I'm happy.
My long terms goal is to keep CrossFit a regular part of my schedule. It needs to stay a priority in my life and I will focus on making sure that continues to be the case. I am in the best shape of my life thanks to this program.
Any advice for individuals who may be nervous or apprehensive about starting CrossFit
Don't make the same mistake so many of us make and think that you have to be at a certain fitness level before you can do CrossFit. This program is not about how you measure against others, it's about how you measure against yourself. The amazing thing about CrossFit is that it can be scaled to anyone's fitness level. At this gym, I can promise you that we are not a bunch of muscle-head ego-manics. We are moms and dads, brothers and sisters who just simply care about our health and fitness. And, we genuinely care for each other. Many of us have friendships outside of the gym. We all lead very busy lives and deal with the same pressures and stresses as anyone else. We have day jobs, go to school, own businesses and work very long hours. For many of us, the best part of our day is the hour at the gym where we laugh just as hard as we workout. And we love it when new people join. Trust me, you will be assimilated very quickly!
